Little Max Fauntleroy

I go to this great coffee shop to draw all the time because I'm a poor, young, hip artist without any tables in her studio apartment. Naturally, my coffee shop is sprawling and a little bit run down, with recycled, mismatched furniture and exposed brick walls. There is a British barista who works there named Max, and he sometimes comes by to look at my drawings and sass me, as per the requirements of this enacted suite of cliches.

He asked me once to draw a portrait of him as Little Lord Fauntleroy in exchange for a gift card. I agreed, but it took me a while to get around to drawing this. I left a space for Max's face, but every time I've been in recently he's been missing. I'm afraid he doesn't work there anymore. My alternative paradise is incomplete.

House Portrait

My friend Carolyn (and her siblings) commissioned me to draw this picture of their childhood home. It was a New Year's Eve gift for their mother, who is moving out of this house next month.

A Portrait of a Gentleman

Andrew's little brother Justin wanted me to draw a fancy portrait of him with his dog, Lieutenant Gibson. I finished this in the late summer, and last Saturday we all went to Michael's and picked out a ridiculously fancy custom frame/matte combo. I hope Justin trains a light on it once he hangs it above a fireplace somewhere. Or surrounds it with candles. Something like that.

Old Photos

These are some photo portraits I took in my senior year of high school (2003-2004) that were also part of my portfolio for school.

My friend Susanna's (who I wrote about recently... see below) dad, John.

Susanna's mother, Rondi.

My grandfather, Franklyn Hill. This is maybe my favorite photograph I've ever taken.

Old Drawings

These are all drawings from last year that were part of my portfolio to get into school.

My old roommate Joe. I started doing portraiture a while ago - it really was the gateway drug for the rest of my figure drawing facinations.

This drawing was for a Cooper Union prompt: "In a series of images, define the boundary between subject and object".

Another Cooper prompt: "Make a self-portrait defined by markings of experiences or events". I didn't get into Cooper Union, probably because these two drawings were really the only good ones I sent in (they had 6 prompts) but these were two of my favorite pieces from the year.

This is the original of the Spiral Dance poster I was commissioned for in 2005. After I drew this some hack colored it in. I hate them.

When I worked at Peet's last year I spent a lot of time drawing on pastry bags with sharpies. This was my favorite production (those are pastry tongs).
